EUGE Public Works Maintenance City of Eugene 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard Eugene, Oregon 97402 (541) 682-4800 Scobert Gardens Progress Update May, 2000 Dear Scobert Garden Neighbor: As part of an ongoing partnership with the neighborhood, the City of Eugene is continuing to implement recommendations of the Scobert Park Advisory Committee. The advisory committee, composed of neighbors and concerned citizens, was created in 1997 to address problems in the park and explore possible solutions. In a final report, the committee outlined 21 recommendations for improving the quality and functionality of Scobert Gardens. One solution recommended by the Scobert Park Advisory Committee is to construct and maintain attractive fencing around planting beds. The goal of this work is to address a variety of safety issues created by illegal use of the area, and to protect park plantings from trampling and abuse. Similar fencing in other areas of the park has been effective in meeting these goals. Installation of the new fencing is anticipated to occur this summer. This new fencing has been selected to match the existing iron fence in the park. A map of Scobert Gardens is provided on the reverse of this letter to show where the new fencing will be installed. The City recognizes that the neighborhood has worked hard to address the crime and safety issues in Scobert Gardens. We believe we contribute to these efforts by implementing this project.
