measure allows for funding this. Nothing has happened in Santa Clara yet to achieve this. If
the City collaborated with 4J in Santa Clara, it would go a long way toward remedying the
perceived lack of formal ball fields (soccer, softball, baseball): it would greatly reduce the need
for the purchase and creation of more park acreage and instead foster a sense of community
cohesion and collaboration among residents.
• Collaborate with area businesses and service groups to sponsor and support the
development and maintenance of Santa Clara's parks thus maximizing limited resources while
building a strong investment in the community.
Purchase one or two additional neighborhood parks
Acquire several smaller parcels within the UGB to provide open spaces that are safe and
convenient to access for residents of Santa Clara. These would augment or "catch up"
program for neighborhood parks, allow for expanded recreational opportunities in the future,
and preserve some of the latest undeveloped land in our community while improving livability
of our
neighborhoods. One of these parks could focus on preserving the agricultural heritage
(Community Gardens) of our area and be a revenue producing educational facility for the City.
Other Sites for Proposed Super Sports Complex
The idea of a super sports complex (an area that can handle multiple soccer /football and
baseball fields with adequate lighting) in the northern portion of Eugene is workable. One
possibility would be to pursue purchase or development of currently vacant areas near the
Eugene Airport, Another would be to put the Sports Complex idea into the redevelopment of
the rail yard area. Either siting is set away from residential areas, located on easily accessible
routes (thus minimizing traffic congestion around residential areas), and already within the
UGB.
CONTACT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOU THINK
Mayor and City Council County Commissioners Eugene Parks and Open Space
Mayorandcc@ci.eugene.or.us Lcbcccom @co.lane.or.us Andrea. g.riner@ci.eugene.or.us
777 Pearl St Rm 105 125 E. 8 St 1820 Roosevelt Blvd.
Eugene, OR 97401 Eugene,OR 97401 Eugene, OR 97402
682 -4203 682 -4800
