MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: June 8, 1989 <br /> TO: Ed Smith <br /> FROM: Dick Morgan <br /> SUBJECT: Alton Baker Park Brush and Tree Clean -up <br /> During the past two years Alton Baker Park has received a great deal of <br /> attention in removal of the undergrowth to open up the entire area. Below <br /> are some cost figures that may be useful as comparisons when considering the <br /> Willamette River Greenway Clean -up. <br /> MECHANICAL CLEAN -UP: Approximately 50 acres of flat land has been cleared <br /> using bulldozers, tractors and rock pickers to put the area into a rough mow <br /> condition. <br /> Costs <br /> Durbin $10,736 <br /> Trivett 3,420 <br /> Prefontaine Foundation 4,000 <br /> Donated Cat (est.) 4,000 <br /> $22,156 <br /> Approximate cost per acre is $443.00. <br /> MANUAL CLEAN -UP: Another four acres of land along the canal has been cleared <br /> by the Sheriff Department's Inmate Crews. Joe Winery of Lane County Parks <br /> estimates that 6,720 hours of labor went into canal bank clearing and tree <br /> pruning. <br /> Estimated Cost Figures: <br /> 6,720 hours <br /> x $5.00 per hour <br /> $33,600.00 Total - Inmate Crew <br /> This workout to an average of $8,400 per acre for manual clearing. A <br /> portion of the inmates' time was spent in limbing up the trees in the area <br /> that was mechanically cleared. <br />
