•
loss of leaf litter and natural duff and the soil is becoming muddy. I feel
that if the present heavy use of this area by dogs continues, the oak
woodland will begin to lose plant -- especially wildflower -- diversity.
I can only draw the conclusion, that the present level of use by dogs is too
great for this area to sustain. So, somewhat reluctantly, I recommend that
the Wayne Morse Park be closed to off -leash dogs, or that measures be
taken to greatly reduce its use by dogs, for the sake of the environment.
I further recommend that if a compromise is reached which allows some
use by dogs, that dog owners be encouraged to form a volunteer group to
fence off the oak woodland to the south and police themselves to keep
dogs out of this fine natural woodland and wildflower area.
Please don't hesitate to call me if you have further questions.
Yours - incerely,
Dr. Rhoda M. Love
393 FulVue Drive
Eugene, Oregon 97405
345 -6241
•
