Saulsbery and I live at 365 E. 30th Ave. in
Eugene. I am a homeowner and taxpayer in this city and I am writing to express
my anger at the suggestion that the Amazon Park Dog - off-leash area be closed
or put to other uses such as a soccer field. My dog Skippy and I use this dog
park at least 6 out of 7 days per week for one to 3 hours a day rain or shine. The
dog park has allowed Skippy to become socialized with other dogs and people
so that when he is out in public on his leash, he is relaxed and friendly around
others. This park also provides him and many other dogs with a place to
exercise and play off -leash without the owners fear of injury from cars or
breaking the off -leash law, which I support. I have also met many people who
live in my neighborhood which I would not normally have met if it had not been
for our common interest in our pets. In the spring, summer and fall myself and
other pet owners spent many enjoyable evenings just visiting with our neighbors
at the dog park. There are even a few people who do not own dogs that come to
the park, just to socialize and watch our dogs play.
This facility is used and enjoyed by people of all ages as well as their
dogs, please donot close the Amazon Park Dog- off -leash area. I would like to
see this become a permanent part of our park, and would be willing..to volunteer
time and work toward improvements such as planting trees and acquiring
additional benches and tables.
Sincerely
Robin L. Saulsbe
