MEMO
To: Bob Hammitt
From: Dick Morgan
Subject: Operation of Hileman & Whitely Boat Landings
Date: March 20, 1998
As instructed by the City Council, I have contacted other governmental agencies and private
organizations as to their interest in operating and maintaining Hileman and Whitely Boat
Landings.
The following agencies were contacted:
1. State Parks Department - Letter sent on June 20, 1997, to Robert Meinen,
Director. Received no response.
2. Lane County Parks Department - Letter sent on June 20, 1997, to Bob Keefer,
Division Manager. Received no response.
3. State Marine Board - Letter and phone conversation with Dave Obern, Facility
Director. They do not maintain or operate boat landings. They provide funding
only.
4. Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife - Phone conversation with Jeff Ziller.
They do not maintain or operate boat landings.
Private groups or individuals contacted include:
1. McKenzie Flyfisher Association - Greg Pitt
2. Cascade Family Flyfishers - Norm Pianalto
3. Steelheader Association - Darlene Dolby
All three organizations have board meetings next week (7/21 -25) and will get back to me after
that date. None of them were overly enthusiastic.
The neighbors at Whitely Boat Landing are all willing to continue picking up litter in the area,
but they prefer that the gate and pit toilet continue to be locked. They feel that restricting the use
at Whitley has increased the bicycle and walk -in traffic of those who live in the community,
while eliminating almost all the undesirable activities.
At this time, we have no group who has stepped forward and offered to maintain the boat
landings.
