When works are given with the understanding and written consent from the donor that
they may be sold or exchanged.
8. The work seriously endangers public safety and all means of procuring a safe site have
been exhausted.
Evaluation. The deaccessioning process may be initiated by the Director of a City Department or
a member of the PADDAC. Once a request is initiated, a deaccessioning worksheet will be
placed in the documentation file (use Seattle's worksheet, put our criteria in). All related archival
files and ownership records will become part of that file if the work is deaccessioned.
Relevant requests or preferences of the donor shall be taken into consideration.
The Committee will meet on call of the Chair to discuss the results of this search and to propose
an appropriate course of action. Deaccession action requires a majority vote.
Before an artwork with a value of $5000 or more can be deaccessioned, exchanged, or sold from
the City's collection, a recognized professional expert shall be consulted for an opinion on the
quality of the object and its condition. If the re- evaluation confirms the original
recommendation in favor of deaccessioning, the Committee shall submit the findings,
substantiating the recommendation with copies of all documentation, via the appropriate
Department/Division to the City Manager. The City Manager or designee shall be asked to
provide written approval for disposal of the object.
If approval to de- accession is not granted, a statement to that effect shall be placed in the object's
documentation file.
