Amazon Creek Wetlands, Oregon <br /> Section 1135 Environmental Restoration Study <br /> PRELIMINARY DRAFT PROJECT OBJECTIVES <br /> December 22, 1994 <br /> The followin , objectives are being considered to guide formulation of alternative plans.for <br /> modifying the existing flood control project along lower Amazon Creek for environmental <br /> restoration: <br /> Wetland (Ecosystem) Restoration <br /> Restore degraded agricultural wetlands adjacent to lower Amazon Creek as closely as possible <br /> to a historic native wet prairie community characterized by [? Develop an expanded <br /> description of the type of ecosystem we would like to see result]. <br /> Hydrologic Conditions <br /> Restore the hydrology between Amazon Creek and adjacent wetlands, including <br /> reestablishment of high frequency flood events and connection of seasonal flow to the <br /> complex of associated stream meander channels. <br /> Flood Control <br /> Maintain the existing level of flood protection capability of Amazon Creek project outside of <br /> restored wetland areas, including the split flow relationship between the "A" and "A3" <br /> Channels. <br /> Fish and Wildlife Habitat <br /> Restore the ability of wetland habitat types in Amazon basin to support a diversity and <br /> abundance of wildlife species during wintering, migration and breeding. <br /> Candidate Threatened and Endangered Wildlife <br /> Restore and protect habitat types supporting candidate and Federal and state listed unique, <br /> threatened and endangered wildlife species associated with native wet prairie communities, <br /> including Clymmys marmorata (western pond turtles) and Rana aurora (Red - legged frogs). <br /> Threatened and Endangered Plants <br /> Restore and protect habitat types 'supporting candidate and Federal and state listed unique, <br /> threatened and endangered plant species, particularly those associated with tufted hairgrass wet <br /> prairie communities dominated by Deschampsia cespitosa. <br /> CY\ CAOSI 2- <br />
