Review Draft Eastern Gateway Wetland Restoration Site -- Annual Report
in the first year, many of the plants were just small seedlings at the time of the
sampling; we anticipate vegetative cover will increase in succeeding years as the
individual plants establish an mature.
Cover of native species was substantial in all three macroplots, and was notably
higher than non - native species in two of the three macroplots. Only in
Macroplot #3 was introduced species cover higher than native species cover.
Deschampsia cespitosa cover was relatively low in this first year, especially in
#1 and #2, but this is to be expected, as the plants were immature and not yet
full size: Bare ground was prominent in all three macroplots, ranging from
36.3% in #3 to 63.9% in #2. Again, this was to be expected for Year 1, when
many of the establishing plants are seedlings and thus have not grown to full
size.
Cover of both Deschampsia cespitosa and non - native species appeared to be '
related to the hydrology gradient, with both measuring highest in Macroplot #3,
which was less inundated than the other two macroplots.
Table .
