d o/
MEMORANDUM
July 13, 1992
TO: Neil Bjorklund
FROM: Jack Long
Under the Permitted Uses sections of the draft ordinances for the Natural Resource District,
Waterside Protection Sub - District, and Wetland Buffer Sub - District, the City's Maintenance
Division would like to see the addition of the following maintenance practice. This
allowance would carry equal weighting with the allowance listed for channel maintenance
and would only require minimal language changes between the three ordinances.
— "Mowing or other non - chemical means to provide a perimeter vegetation control strip
between the natural resource and any abutting private property. Such vegetation
control strip will be created only when deemed necessary by the City's Public Works
Director, or his or her designee, and shall be a maximum of 20 feet in width from said
abutting private property."
Such allowance would not be subject to Special Standard A, since this limits removal to
non -native or invasive plants, dead trees, or grass and weeds, nor Special Standard B.
Although it may never be necessary to carry through with the creation of such a vegetation
control zone along abutting property lines, the City may find such a practice necessary or
expedient at some future date. Since all three draft ordinances prohibit any use or practice .
not specified within the ordinance, Maintenance Division feels it necessary to specify an
allowance for such practice in all three ordinances.
