•
CITY OF EUGENE
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
INTERIM DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES
TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO.
March 6, 1222-
Subject
Lists of native plants recommended for planting in various situations related to
implementation of the City's stormwater program.
Background
The Comprehensive Stormwater Plan contains a BMP (0M2, Vegetation Management
Program), that recommends that the City's existing vegetation management program be
modified to benefit water quality. Under Task #4, recommended implementation activities
include identifying native species appropriate for local landscape use, and developing criteria
for which native species are appropriate for various landscape and parks planting area
designs. In addition, other planning documents, such as the West Eugene Wetlands Plan,
also identify situations where use of native plants is recommended. However, technical
information regarding what species are appropriate for planting in specific situations has been
limited. This document provides separate lists of native plant species that are believed to be
appropriate for a variety of situations, along with the criteria that were used for selecting
these particular species. Recommended species lists have been developed for the following
situations:
1) Ornamental Native Plants
These are woody or herbaceous plant species that possess attractive or
distinctive ornamental features. These features could include showy flowers or
fruit, interesting features of leaves, bark, etc, and a refined habitat appropriate
for use in built landscapes. These plants are generally adaptable to garden
conditions or and other urban settings.
Wetland
Scientific Name Common Name Indicator Status'
TREES
Abies grandis grand fir
Acer macrophyllum bigleaf maple FACU-
Alnus rhombifolia white alder FACW
Arbutus menziesii Pacific madrone
Calocedrus decurrens incense -cedar —
Cornus nuttallii Pacific dogwood
