.03/07/95 09:40 $503 224 7820 WOODWARD -CLYDE 0007/022
•
greatest) currently route water from roofs and on -site paved areas exclusively to dry
wells.
ThereYis no written guidance provided to contractors and property owners regarding
proper construction and maintenance of stormwater quality facilities to ensure optimum
continued performance.
Recommendations for Interim Guidance for On -Site Controls
Recommendations for use of available guidance materials as an interim measure are
provided for the following categories of controls:
• Stormwater Filters
• Infiltration Facilities
• Stormwater Ponds and Marshes (Wetlands)
• Structural Facilities for Oil and Grease and Sediment Control
• Erosion Control
Every attempt has been made to locate suitable guidance for applicability and selection
of facilities, pollutant removal efficiencies, design, construction, landscaping and
vegetation, short and long -term maintenance, costs and secondary benefits (e.g.,
recreation, habitat). Note that the reference materials published by other public
agencies and groups vary in their contents. For example, some manuals include cost
information, others don't. For this reason, a variety of references may be
recommended for a single category or type of control_
The discussion below provides descriptions for the facilities and justification or
rationale for the recommendations; that is, why a particular reference manual is
recommended or not recommended.
In addition to the standard reference manuals available, Tom Schueler of the Center
for Watershed Protection in Washington DC and leading technical experts around the
country continue to present the most recent fmdings and guidance in the periodic
publication, Watershed Protection Techniques. This is an excellent publication and we
recommend that each of the City staff involved in plan review and permit checking
have their own subscription for their personal reference libraries. To date, only two
issues have been published: February 1994 and Summer 1994. Reference is made to
Techniques throughout this memorandum.
S\945042na \task0200 \onsitc conrnols\techmem.ck 6
