TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM
July 13, 1995
Page 9
result in an extremely low to nonexistent potential for disposal of stormwater by infiltration.
Therefore, infiltration strategies used by other jurisdictions will not be considered.
Erosion Control Criteria
Erosion control has become a significant factor in the management of stormwater runoff.
Traditionally, erosion causes land surface and stream bank deterioration. Eroded materials
also fill pipes, culverts, channels, ponds, and other drainage structures. Reduced capacity and
flooding can result when excessive sediment clogs the system. More recently, considerable
attention is being given to the water quality aspects of erosion. Sediment loading of receiving
streams increases the turbidity of these waters, which has a direct negative impact on fish and
other aquatic life. In addition, metals and other pollutants may be attached physically or
chemically to the eroded material. Hence, this subsection references the various requirements
of erosion control by other communities. Table 3 -6 lists the erosion control provisions for
several jurisdictions.
•
1:\ 21 I'flask3Vm34.cug DRAFT
