Christine Andersen
Page 3
May 23, 1996
get it properly funded. We would recommend hiring a consultant to lead us through the
project. In addition to the consultant costs, there are costs for minutes recorders,
advertising, and miscellaneous other expenses associated with a departmental advisory
committee. Simply going through the process to select the committee would likely take
40 to 60 hours. At this time, given our existing workload, I would propose to go through
this service level change process and begin formation of the committee in the summer of
1997. We just simply don't have the capacity to undertake the project at this time.
Conclusion
The existing workload is already heavy with no end in sight. We do plan to begin the Urban
Forestry service profile process. I hope there is agreement to delay other projects; such as, the
tree inventory, Urban Forestry procedures manual, and the department advisory committee. It
also may mean further back log of Planning Division referrals.
Let me know if you want all of this managed in a different manner.
