I explained to her that I did not know
the trees were a memorial. She is okay at this point with the fact
that they had to be removed, but said a couple of things that you should
probably know about.
She said her group had plans to take out the dead trees and plant
flowers on the sites this weekend. She said it was being coordinated by
Dennis Leuck (sp ?).
It doesn't appear that Dennis was working with anyone
on the staff. I told Jeanine that it is important to talk to Bob if they
ever want to do anything in the public right -of -way. She was upset that
the posts came out, but understood when I talked to her about the liability
issues they created for the City.
She also said she talked to Jan this morning and asked him where the
oak trees that are temporarily planted there came from. She said Jan said
he didn't know anything about them and had not been consulted. I thought Jan
was aware of what was happening, so I am confused by his response (if she is
relaying the information accurately.) She was not told that the oak trees
are planted in pots and are temporary. When she found that out, she felt
much better.
She also said there is a plaque by the trees saying they were planted as
a memorial. I'm assuming the plaque is still there? I'm also wondering if
anyone told Dennis that we removed the dead trees, and why we removed the
posts. Thanks for your help with this. Linda
