MEMORANDUM <br /> May 11, 1993 <br /> TO: Paul Nicholson <br /> FROM: Jan Staszewski, Urban Forester <br /> SUBJECT: Recommendations For Tree Preservation Code Changes - 6.300 — 6.330 <br /> Listed below suggested changes that would bring the code to -date and address <br /> situations not foreseen when last rewritten. The changes would need to be <br /> reviewed by additional staff before being formally released to the Council for <br /> consideration and possible adoption. <br /> A. Housekeeping Changes <br /> 1. Change the references from the parks, parks and recreation <br /> department, or the director of Parks to the "City Manager or <br /> designee." <br /> 2. The following section, words in italics are added and strikeouts <br /> are deleted. Change section 6.305 Tree Felling Prohibition to <br /> read as follows: (1) Except as provided in section 6.330, no <br /> person may fell more than five trees within a twelve month period <br /> from a parcel of private property consisting <br /> of 20,000 or more square feet of area without a permit. <br /> B. Major Changes <br /> 1. The following section, words in italics are added and strikeouts <br /> are deleted. Change section 6.305(g) Criteria to read as follows: <br /> The felling 45. within a parcel, one acre or greater, shall adhere <br /> to the guidelines set forth in the Field Guide to Oregon Forestry <br /> Practices Rules published by the State of Oregon, Department of <br /> Forestry, as they apply to the northwest Oregon region, or the <br /> corresponding future publications of the State of Oregon <br /> Department of Forestry. <br /> 2. New language to address fire safety on wooded sites: All <br /> permitted tree removal operations shall cease as per directive of <br /> the City Manager or designee (i.e., fire marshall). Tree removal <br /> operations shall commence when allowed by the City Manager or <br /> designee. (language will be coordinated with the Fire Department) <br />
