Date: 12/14/92
From: Jan Staszewski CEWMJXS - RIS1
To: Shawn Boles CEEXSMB - RIS1
cc: John Etter CERMJFE - RIS1
Bob Hammitt CEWMJRH - RIS1
Adrian Stansfield CERMAES - RIS1
Ben Bonner CEWMBFB - RIS1
Subject: Tree Maintenance Concerns of Mildred White of Adams St.
Ben Bonner, Tree Crew Supervisor, and I met with Ms. White this past Friday.
She was concerned that the City was going to severely prune the trees as was
done in the past by EWEB. We assured her that our crews were just going to
trim the low limbs from over the street and sidewalk and prune out some of the
excess water sprouts in the crown. This work will reduce both the potential of
limb failure caused by excessive number of water sprouts cluster at an old cut
and the possiblity of damage to the tree from passing truck traffic breaking
off low limbs.
In addition, we informed her that we will let her know a day in advance of our
return to her street to prune the trees. Ms. White thought this approach to
be acceptable. She then proceeded to give us a tour of her garden.
To prevent similar incidents from happening again we are producing a "door
hanger" to inform the public when we will be in their neighborhood, what type
of tree maintenance will be done, and why we are providing this service (I will
send you a copy when they are printed). In addition, I plan to write an
article for the neighborhood news letters letting residents know of our sys-
tematic tree maintenance program.
