Date: 05/06/92 MJXS - RIS1
From: Jan Staszewski CE CEWMJXS
- RIS1
To: Shawn Boles CEWACFA - RIS1
cc: Chris Andersen
Bob Hammitt CEWMJRH - RIS1
Johnny Medlin CEWMJRM - RIS1
John Etter CERMJFE - RIS1
Subject: Small Business Administration (SBA) Tree Planting Grant
Shawn, remembering your interest from last year, I thought you might be inter-
ested in some good news I just received. In February I submitted a grant appl-
ication for $25,000 to plant trees long Unit One of the Highway 99 Overlay
(Barger to Beltline). Recently, the Oregon Dept. of Forestry notified the City
of an SBA grant award pending Federal approval. Federal approval is expected
by September 1992.
The State received 44 requests of grants and awarded 19. To accommodate more
projects throughout the state Eugene's request has been reduced by half -
$12,500, but this award is still one of the largest. The City will match the
grant with a combination of existing dollars earmarked for project landscaping
and the value of overhead and subsequent tree maintenance. I will meet with
the staff team to explore design options for this funding level.
I have recently received notification of another opportunity for a grant with
the AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL program. This program offers upwards of $10,000
toward "new programs that might not be funded otherwise through existing bud-
gets." I will submit the application for this program before June 22, 1992.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know. Thank you.
