N.C., a city <br /> about twice the size of Eugene. <br /> Staszweski's responsibilities will in- <br /> dude policy development for the city's <br /> urban forestry program, enforcement <br /> of the Tree Preservation Ordinance <br /> and staffing of the Eugene Tree Com- <br /> mission. His starting cdary will be <br /> S30,228 a year <br /> His initial duties will be to design a <br /> maintenance management program <br /> that indudes an inventory of all city <br /> street trees, park trees and city-owned <br /> forested lands. <br /> He also will work with the public <br /> and private developers on tree care <br /> procedures and will coordinate the ac- <br /> tivities of utility companies. contrac- <br /> tors and private citizens with regard to <br /> the Tree Preservation Ordinance. <br /> Staszweski has a degree in forest <br /> management from the University of <br /> Wisconsin and worked for three years <br /> as the assistant urban forester in Dur- <br /> ham, N.C., before moving to Raleigh. <br /> While in Raleigh. he founded the <br /> North Carolina Urban Forestry Coun- <br /> cil and was elected its first chairman. <br /> The recommendation to hire an ur- <br /> ban forester was made by the city's <br /> Tree Commission early this year and <br /> the hiring process began this summer. <br />
