A couple of comments.
1. The service profile work currently in process will likely identify some of the gaps (it might be one sided
from a PWM point of view), but I don't see it including solutions since the building and planning folks
haven't had extensive involvement and their services are outside the urban forestry service profile by
definition. In other words, while provide consulting to them on urban forestry it is just one of many issues
they deal with and therefore their time and efforts are considered to be in other service categories. The
focus on their involvement in this service profile was being looked at on how our provision of urban
forestry consulting services was working and not to debug their land use process.
Waiting until we get a little farther on the service profile may be a good idea in that it would give Roland a
much better grounding on where we see the OF issues. (Again, it might be a little one -sided of a view.)
2. Notice of when tree removals would take place would be good, but only if someone had the assigned
authority to perform a field review of this prior to the removal. I don't think anyone does that now. We do
not, but could if additional resources were provided.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this process goes.
Thanks
Johnny
From: LYLE Les A
To: ANDERSEN Chris F; FARKAS Abe K; MILLER Marsha A
Cc: BRIDGES Beth B; HAMMITT Bob; MEDLIN Johnny R
Subject: PUD's and Trees
Date: Tuesday, August 13, 1996 12:58PM
I thought I'd put together a short summary of what I thought 1
heard at our meeting yesterday. Certainly correct anything
you think is incorrect or needs further clarification. Thanks
Les L
1. The focus will be on PUD's and short term fixes at this
point. Upon completion of the service profile work, there
will be a determination of whether to proceed with a more
comprehensive review of the processing of tree issues during
the development review process.
2. The systems team will be used for at most a one -day
session with a focused group discussing the fixes we can put
in place now. The participants will be Johnny Medlin, Scott
Plamondon., Mike McKerrow, Steve Nystrom. Roland will be the
lead resource from the systems team due to his knowledge of
the Urban Forest Service Profile.
3. Process review will occur sometime in September due to vacations, etc.
4. A couple of ideas came out of our discussion including
more precise language for the applicant as to when the tree
plan would have to be submitted with respect to final PUD and
Page 1
