•
Thank you for your call of concern about the proposed removal
of hazardous trees at Hendricks Park.
For the last few years, a number of trees have fallen in
Hendricks Park. These tree failures have occurred throughout
the park but many have occurred along the east property line
bordering the residences along Floral Hill Drive. Due to
these failures and in order to protect property, the trees
within striking distance of an abutting residence on the edge
of the park along Floral Hill Drive were inspected to
determine their hazard potential. This inspection work was
performed under contract by a private consulting arborist
certified by the International Society of Arboriculture.
The arborist inspected each tree and the report identified a
number of trees as potential hazards. Thirty nine of these
trees were determined to have a high hazard rating. There
were an additional 68 trees identified as moderately
hazardous.
Since September,1996 a total of 19 trees have been removed
from the park. The majority of these trees were identified as
hazards and have been scheduled for removal since June, 1996.
The arborist inspection and report reaffirmed that they were
hazards. At the present time, no additional trees are
scheduled for removal. Each of the remaining hazard trees
will be thoroughly examined. Due to budget restraints, the
examination and removal of these hazard trees will be
performed only as resources allow. The trees with the
highest degree of hazard will be removed first.
In order to preserve the forested nature of the park, each
tree removed will be replaced by at least two trees. This
will result in the preservation of the forest with species
that are well sited, safe, and appropriate for along the
forest edge and near park structures.
hope this information is sufficient for your needs.
Thanks Scott
Page 2
