The city provides
the trees, tools, stakes, planting help, and training. Volunteers plant the trees in public
rights -of -way along neighborhood streets, then water and care for the trees during the first
few critical years.
During the past year, individuals and groups planted more than 800 trees through the
NeighborWoods program. The 17 volunteer coordinators being recognized on Monday
organized more than 200 volunteers, who planted 340 trees in local neighborhoods and at
area schools.
Certificates of appreciation will be presented to the volunteer coordinators by the
Eugene City Council at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers, 777 Pearl St. For more
information about the NeighborWoods program, call 687 -5359.
# ##
