While this street
tree planting program is coordinated by city staff, the bulk of the work performed in getting trees
planted is through neighborhood volunteers.
The program expanded from approximately 300 trees planted in FY -92, to approximately 600 trees planted
in FY -93. This year the goal is to have 1,000 new trees planted along city streets.
Helping to coordinate these efforts, staff have developed a shirt pocket sized bound booklet titled.
"NeighborWoods, Planter's Handbook of Street Trees ". This handbook covers items ranging from choosing
a site for the new tree and what trees are available to planting and maintaining the new tree in the
critical period of its establishment. Copies of this booklet, which are available to all NeighborWoods
volunteers, have been included in today's council packet.
