Date: 07/01/93
From: Linda Norris CEEXLHN - RIS1
To: Bob Hammitt CEWMJRH - RIS1
Subject: Tree Ordinance
Reference: Your note of 07/01/93 12:09
Bob, thanks for your note. Mike and I had several conversations yesterday
about the reaction we expect from the homebuilders and developers. We
talked to Ruth about it, and that's when she began thinking about a
veto. For the Mayor to veto a bill is a BIG DEAL, so she's going to think
about it for a few days. Mike was already getting calls from developers
yesterday afternoon. They aren't too happy, as we all expected.
Ruth is also considering whether to just let this blow up so Council will
see what the consequences are of making decisions like this without a public
process. So stay tuned.... I agree with your assessment of it being better
to just sit tight yesterday. I had the same thoughts you did, and also decided
to let them go their own direction. I'm glad Jan is taking some time off -
very good planning on his part. Talk to you later. Linda
