Hammitt, Bob
From: Stansfield, Adrian
To: Morgan, Dick
Cc: Weber, John; Hammitt, Bob
Subject: Tree removal , Broadway and Chamelton
Date: Monday, July 25, 1994 7:41AM
RAM, As you said, Dave Edwards was called out Saturday moming to clean up a downed limb from a Sweetgum
on the N/W comer of Broadway and Chamelton. Dave cleaned up the limbs and got them out of the way.
Mark and Dave went down to clean up this moming (Monday July 25th). Mark called me down to look at what
was left of the tree. There were two limbs that broke. One from the top of the tree where it was forked in three
directions at one point. The other was a limb farther down on the crown that was broken by the top limb falling
on it. Both limbs were 6 to 8 inches in diameter. What was left at the top was bad situation made worse by the
limb that broke saturday. There were two leads, forked at the same point with a bark inclusion on one side and
the fresh break on the other. To elimanate the hazardous portion of the top and the remainder of the lower limb
that broke saturday would leave only one major limb on the northeast portion of the tree.
I instructed Mark to remove the entire tree while they were there and eliminate the hazard.
The tree is 16 to 18 inches dbh and is of the size that would normally requirer posting, however, because of the
unusual circumstances I determined to not post and remove the tree at this time.
Item number 1 and 4 of the "Policy For Large, Hazardous Tree Removal" policy allow for such removals in my
oppinion. Mark has taken pictures and we will follow up with a written report.
Page 1
