You would end up with a tree
every 15' -20'. Suggest eliminating driveways and curb returns from the calculation.
2) How will you deal with fees for abutting local r/w where we accept a petition for future improvements?
those trees will be planted and assessed if the City contracts for the improvements. Should planting be
included in assessment? Or will trees be paid for up front and then a city cost during construction? How
to track and notify construction project mgr?
3) Will trees be an assessable cost for collectors? We typically get petitions for these if they adjoin a
development. Will City be bound by plan /species submitted by each development?
4) Program, 6.7 - What is "sufficient distance" to protect trees from noxious fumes?
5) Program 6.10 - Use larger of widths in treeprogram or planting strip widths identified in Local St Plan
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
To: ARGENTINA Eileen; FERGUSON Joe M; KROECK Louis G; KLOPE Paul W; LANKSTON Jeff;
WESTFALL Wayne T
Cc: HAMMITT Bob; PLAMONDON Scott F
Subject: Administrative rules to implement street tree
provisions of the Local Street Plan Ordinance
Date: Friday, October 04, 1996 7:40AM
Hi Folks,
I thought you might be interested in looking at the draft
administrative rules which are designed to implement the tree
related provisions of the recently passed local street plan
ordinance (LSP).
The LSP requires street trees as a part of any development
which created streets. The street trees are required on the
newly created streets and any streets the development abuts.
The developer has the option of paying the city to plant the
street trees or putting them in themselves (we suspect most
developers will chose the city option since I suspect it will
be less costly for them in the long run to do so.)
I don't see any of this changing the way we deal with trees
internally on our own projects, it pretty much enacts what we
are already doing. Since there is an option which would let
the developer plant their own tree we had to put on paper the
"standards" for tree selection, tree location, etc. which we
have been using. You might find that information interesting
and I would be interested in any comments you might have.
Scott and I will be meeting with Glenn Klein Monday the 14th
to discuss changes prior to processing these for adoption. We
have a need to process these fairly quickly since the
ordinance is already in effect and the development community
is asking for direction on what they need to do to meet the
new ordinance requirements.
Thanks
Johnny
Page 1
