All statistics were compiled during a period from 6/25/86 to 9/19/86. <br /> City of Eugene tree crews detected and removed 18 elm trees infected with Dutch <br /> Elm disease. There were 5 trees located on private property and 13 trees loca- <br /> ted in the public right -of -way. The hours and cost include removal, <br /> disposal, and grinding of stumps. The total cost to manage Dutch Elm disease <br /> in the City of Eugene from 6/25/86 to 9/19/86 was $13,558.00 and 765 man hours. <br /> These hours and cost include employee wages and benefits, vehicle rentals, mis- <br /> cellaneous materials and supplies, all time spent inventoring, removing, sam- <br /> ple taking, and administering. The only cost not included were the disposal <br /> fees, which were donated by Lane County Refuge. <br /> The City of Eugene Arboriculture Department, along with the State Department <br /> of Agriculture, combined their efforts to inventory as much of the elm popu- <br /> lation within the city limits as time would permit.
