That sidewalk contains a number of trees that have metal semi - circular gratings around them that circle the tree and allow rain water to feed the tree's root system. On more than one of these grates, the roots and dirt have raised the cast iron grating sections so that they no longer match, and a significant differential in height exists between the two semi- circular iron castings, and the sidewalk. My mother tripped over one of these irregular areas, causing her to fall forward. As a result of the improper maintenance of these grates, she sustained a fracture to her nose, significant lacerations and avulsions, requiring six stitches to her hand, as well as significant swelling to each knee cap, as well as pain in her shoulder and hip area. At the urgent care medical provider that first attended to her, the nurse stated that she has three personal friends that she knows that have tripped on those gratings. I am sure that the City, and Hilton, have knowledge of many more of these incidents resulting from the defective conditions of the sidewalk area.
