If funded, we will serve as
the fiscal agent for the project.
This proposal is an outgrowth of the original partnership that developed the 1992 West Eugene
Wetlands Plan, which now serves as a national model of wetland conservation planning. That
partnership consisted of the City of Eugene, The Nature Conservancy, The U.S. Bureau of
Land Management, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Oregon Youth Conservation Corps.
The partnership has now expanded in the education arena to include other governmental and
non governmental agencies, local school districts and institutions of higher educations, non-
profit agencies and businesses and other interested citizens. The partnership currently manages
2500 acres of publicly -owned lands, which include the last remaining one percent of the rare
Willamette Valley wet prairie. More public education is needed to assist with managing and
protecting these lands. Efforts are underway within the partnership to build an education center
for the West Eugene Wetlands and this proposal is key to that effort.
Project IEP requests funds to plan and develop: (a) the initial architectural renderings, models
and cost estimates for the future education center; (b) an Interpretive Plan and unified
educational themes for the education center and associated outdoor wetland
facilities; (c) a business plan; and (d) site - specific training materials, including a training
manual to aid volunteer docents who guide students and adults on tours of the wetlands.
Thank you for consideration of this proposal. If you have questions please call Scott Duckett,
Wetlands Manager at (541) 682 -6842. Thank you for considering Project IEP.
Sine
e,
City Engin
cc: Therese Welch, Water Resource Manager
Scott Duckett, Wetlands Manager
