The closure is due to the ongoing repairs to West 13 Avenue from Garfield to Washington th streets. Working under contract to the Eugene Public Works Department, Knife River Corporation began working on the section of West 13 Avenue between Polk and Washington streets in late April. th Since then, crews have installed dozens of sidewalk access ramps and reconstructed the south lane of West 13 from Polk to Monroe streets. th Crews next will reconstruct West 13 from Monroe to Washington streets. One lane will th remain open for vehicles to turn from 13 Avenue to southbound Jefferson Street. Northbound traffic th on Jefferson will be advised to turn at 18 Avenue to avoid the closure and detour at 15 Avenue. thth It will take several days for the contractor to complete the reconstruction work on West 13 th between Monroe and Washington streets and put in a drivable base pavement. Work will then shift to the north side of West 13, which should go quicker because full reconstruction is not needed in most th locations. Eventually, the contractor will construct a top-lift driving surface the full width of West 13 th to finish this phase of the project. All work between Polk and Washington is scheduled to be completed before the Lane County Fair opens on July 23.
