The
. Oregon
Community
Foundation
Your organization has received a grant from an Advised Fund of The Oregon
Community Foundation
We would like to take this opportunity to answer some commonly asked questions about our advised
funds.
What is an advised fund?
Many Oregonians have chosen to establish advised funds with The Oregon Community Foundation. An
advised fund is a way for an individual, family, or business to create a grantmaking program tailored to
their charitable goals.
Through an advised fund, one or more advisors work with the Foundation's staff to make
recommendations to OCF's board of directors for organizations to receive support from the fund. Once
the board of directors approves the recommendations, the organizations will receive the grant award.
We encourage organizations that receive OCF's support to report to us on their progress and how the
grant has benefited their community. We do like to share this information with our fund advisors.
Is this a gift from the original donor or The Oregon Community Foundation?
Your grant is from the Foundation. When a donor makes a gift to establish an advised fund, it becomes
the irrevocable property of the Foundation. However, we will act on the donors' recommendation for
distributions from the fund when the recommendations are to qualified charitable, social, educational
and cultural organizations primarily in the state of Oregon.
The Foundation's donors and staff cannot receive any personal benefits or services for this grant that are
not otherwise extended to the public without cost.
How do we thank the donor who made the recommendation?
Unless the donor has requested anonymity, we include his or her name and address at the bottom of the
award letter which accompanies each grant. If the donor requested anonymity, we will not include their
contact information. Instead, you may send notes of appreciation to the Foundation and we will forward
them onto the donor.
How should we publicly recognize this gift?
The source of the grant should be listed as the "fund name" of The Oregon Community Foundation.
Who can answer other questions about this grant?
Contact Laura Winter, Director of Advised Funds, Linda Rozman, Advised Funds Associate, or Xantha
Stringfellow, Advised Funds Associate at 503 - 227 -6846.
