PNN produces native seed material and specializes in genetically local seed
varieties. This company is the sole source for several species of seed that are genetically from Eugene. The West
Eugene Wetland has a policy of using genetically local seed so we do not have another choice for purchasing many of
these species commercially.
As a result, we typically purchase seed from PNN each year to do our restoration work. Over the past several
years the amount of acreage we have been restoring has been increasing and in several cases PNN has been unable
to meet our needs. In response to this issue, this year we "reserved" our seed early by placin an order early in the
year. PNN was unable to promise the order nor provide a quote as seed had not yet been harvested, however, they
agreed to do their best to meet our needs first,
Then we had several staff changes. As Kris notes below, Jean Jancaitis, the seed program coordinator, left and
her replacement has not yet started. Also, I was moved into my current position and was not made aware of the
details of this order until after its arrival. PNN shipped the seed to us and we used it on our restoration projects
this fall. Now they have shipped us the invoice and we are realizing that the overall price of the shipment exceeds
1
