E
i me roff ice
M E M O R A N D U M
to: Maintenance Division Supervisors and Training Day Planning Committee Members
from: Bob Hammitt
subject: Training Day
date: February 1, 1996
Attached is the final Training Day agenda. Note that the Safety Awards ceremony begins
promptly at 8:00 am. Supervisors with staff that normally begin their shifts at 8:00 am, or after,
should make appropriate schedule changes so that all employees can attend the ceremony and be
seated by 8:00 am.
This event typically generates several questions every year. Below I will attempt to clarify those
ahead of time.
Yes, the Training Day events are mandatory work assignments for every employee, just like any
other work assignment. Supervisors are expected to attend, set a good example, and make
arrangements so that it is possible for all employees to attend. If necessary, make the appropriate
schedule changes for employees. It is certainly understood that we have to maintain a minimal
level of services during the day. For example, we have to deal with emergency sewer pluggings,
required inspections, emergency fleet repairs, and staff the phones and the front counter. Those
are examples.
Employees are entitled to do their own thing during lunch (12:00 pm to 12:30 pm). Part of this
session is for employee team building, organizational development, and employee recognition I
would expect that supervisors encourage all of their employees to sign up and attend the
luncheon. Those employees that choose not to attend should be back in the large bay room by
12:30 pm.
The one agenda item that is a required training for all employees is the Workplace Violence
training. Since we are shut down for the day anyhow, it would certainly be wise to get
everybody possible in this session. For those that cannot attend, we have scheduled another
session on February 27, 1996 from 1:45 pm to 3:30 pm. All employees that do not attend the
February 16th session, should be scheduled into the February 27th session.
As an incentive for employees to attend all of the sessions, several door prizes will be given
away throughout the day. Two of these will be given during the lunch period.
