1. Entrance <br />Pickup your button, litter bag, and handouts at the entrance <br />table. <br />2. Bicycle I.D. Stamping Area <br />We will stamp your Oregon driver's license number on your <br />bike while you tour the event. <br />3. Department Displays (Building tit) <br />A variety of displays illustrate this year's theme, Quality <br />Counts, including: the new Stormwater program; Eugene <br />Airport's 50th Anniversary; Wastewater Pretreatment Pro- <br />cess; Transportation Services; The High Cost of Vandal- <br />ism; The Answer Car; an occupational computer game; the <br />Public Engineering Process; Owen Rose Garden; and <br />Safety on the Job. <br />4. First Aid/Lost and Found <br />S. Refreshment Area <br />Stop by for free pop and popcorn <br />6. Fueling Facility <br />This is where we fuel, lube, and change the oil in City <br />vehicles. <br />7. Fleet Maintenance Shop (Building tit ) <br />This is where Public Works maintains all City owned ve- <br />hicles and communication equipment - including police <br />cars and motorcycles, fire trucks, ambulances, excavating <br />equipment, and mowers. <br />JOB SHOP <br />Public Works Job Shop gives local high school students a <br />chance to learn about career opportunities and hiring re- <br />quirements for public works jobs. This year, students who <br />signed up for Job Shop attend an introductory session for an <br />overview of the Public Works department, then move to <br />workshops and tours for more detailed information. <br />S. Equipment Display Area #1 <br />Feel free to climb aboard the equipment and see how <br />things look from the driver's seat. Staff is on hand to <br />answer questions and demonstrate how the equipment <br />operates. <br />9. Nail Driving Area <br />Pounding nails into a block of wood tests strength and eye/ <br />hand coordination. <br />10. Brown Bag Lunch Any <br />11. 1&1 Video and Sewer Inspection <br />(Building #11) <br />Using a video camera, our crews regularly inspect more <br />than 520 miles of City underground sewer lines for dam- <br />age and signs of inflow and infiltration (I &I). Sometimes <br />you can see small animals that live in the lines. <br />2. Heavy Equipment Operation Area <br />Here's a chance to run heavy equipment. Ilue to safety <br />regulations, only people 18 or older can run the equip- <br />ment. Because of the popularity of this activity, please <br />limit your operating time to 3 minutes a vehicle. <br />13. Equipment Display Area tit <br />Get a close -up look at Public Works trucks, a huge <br />snowplow used at the airport, other equipment from the <br />Wastewater Treatment Plant, and a parking control cart. <br />14. Trailer Rides <br />Enjoy a tour of the Maintenance storage yard on a trailer <br />pulled by a dump truck. <br />IS. Irrigation Exhibit <br />Sprinkler systems are displayed, along with information <br />on how you can conserve water at home. <br />16. Turf and Grounds Exhibit <br />Learn about the environmental benefits of turf grass. <br />17. Sewer Cleaning Demonstration <br />A clear plastic pipe lets you see how we clean under- <br />ground sanitary sewer lines. <br />18. Survey Equipment <br />Check out state -of- the -art equipment used In the survey <br />and design of public improvements. <br />19. In -Fun- Structure Children's Activities: <br />a. Traffic sign obstacle course — how fast can you get <br />through the course, following the traffic safety signs? <br />b. Coloring area, treatment plant puzzle, and Pollu- <br />tion Fighter computer game — three activities help <br />children learn about what Public Works does and the <br />importance of clean water. <br />c. Pipe assembly— here's a chance foryoung engineers <br />to put together pipe and fittings. <br />d. Bridge - building contest — middle and high school <br />students will have their popsicle -stick bridges tested for <br />strength. <br />e. Stormwater walk-through maze — follow the Adven- <br />tures of a Raindrop as it flows to the river. <br />f. Airport target toss —see if you can hit one of the many <br />destination points served by the Eugene Airport <br />g. Seed/stump display — plant wildflower seeds and <br />see how many kids can stand inside a large stump. <br />h. Seat belt convincer — one look at this action -display - <br />will convince anyone that seat belts save lives. <br />20. Exit <br />Thank you for joining us.
