Our site will continue to evolve over time. I look forward to working with you and your staff on the continuous
improvement of the site.
Randy
- - - -- Original Message---- -
From: MEDLIN Johnny R
Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 1:05 PM
To: KOLB Randy C
Cc: MCVEY Fred; BLANCHARD Bob C; *Eugene PW POS Mgmt Team
Subject: New Website
Hi Randy,
I know that it is brand new and there is still more to be done to fully implement it, but considering all our talks
about this to date about my concerns regarding feel and appearance of the site, I would feel I wouldn't be
honest if I didn't say I'm very disappointed in what I see with the new web site.
I do remember you said the new tool it is suppose to be very user friendly with good ability to make changes
and improvements and I'm very much hoping that is the case. So far, in my opinion, this is several orders of
magnitude below what we had. If fact, the entire city website is somewhat disappointing to me. I was hoping
for so much more in terms of graphics and pictures of real people doing real things here in Eugene.
Eugene is really a great place to live, work and play and I think our old site emphasized that about Eugene
with a first visual impact of "wow this is really a cool place ". That was the impression it gave even before a
visitor started reading and navigating around. I feel this new product, so far, is bland and text oriented to the
point that many of the pages are really "busy" and hard to read.
I do not think people looking at the current city web site, and certainly not our portion of it, will get the
impression that Eugene is anything special or that our web site is anything special.
I have already received numerous visits by my staff sharing their disappointment and a couple negative
comments from citizen users. I hope over the next few weeks we can work to improve this. I would be very
open to ideas on how we could accomplish this.
Thanks
Johnny
