CHAPTER IV <br />Provide additional <br />trail access to <br />ridgeline sites <br />E -10. Consider transportation requirements when planning and <br />designing parks and recreation facilities, and coordinate <br />transportation improvements with other City divisions and other <br />agencies, such as ODOT, Lane County, and LTD. <br />E -11. Ensure safe crossings of busy streets to improve access to parks <br />and promote use of bike and pedestrian transportation. <br />E -12. Partner with EWER, ODOT, LTD, and others to use public <br />easements throughout the City as potential pedestrian <br />corridors. <br />E -13. Provide more access to the Willamette River for water - related <br />recreation and trail uses. <br />E -14. Develop programs and facilities for water trails and water trail <br />activities. <br />E -15. Provide additional trail access to ridgeline sites, both to <br />improve neighborhood access and to support community - <br />wide use. <br />E -16. Coordinate with other agencies and providers to encourage <br />the development of a regional trail system linking <br />Eugene /Springfield with Fern Ridge Reservoir, the coast, the <br />Cascades, and the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers. Provide <br />bicycle and pedestrian access through agricultural areas in <br />the Willow Creek, Bethel /Danebo, and Santa Clara planning <br />areas of Eugene. <br />E -17. Provide hiking and bicycle trail maps to facilitate trail use. <br />Highlight accessibility information and provide maps in <br />alternative formats whenever appropriate. <br />E -18. Improve security of trails. Consider methods such as: <br />• Lighting where appropriate, <br />• User education and stewardship programs; <br />• Community events and activities to increase visibility and <br />use; <br />• Increased maintenance to provide additional human <br />presence on the trails to discourage crime; and <br />• Additional security or volunteer patrol of trail systems, <br />including staffed facilities or park hosts in remote areas. <br />E -19.
