Study Background <br />On November 29, 2000, the Eugene and 5pringfielci City Councils, the Lane County Commi55ion, and the <br />Willamalane Fork and Recreation Board metjointly and agreed by unanimous consensus to proceed with a <br />Metropolitan Regional Forks and Open 5pace 5tudy. At that time, each jurisdiction agreed to fund a portion of <br />the $50,000 study. The contracto have now been put in place and work has begun. <br />LCOG io managing this project, working with a staff team that con5i5t5 of two reprcoent5 from each <br />jurisdiction. The Metropolitan Policy Committee (MFG) i5 providing policy direction. To date, we have completed <br />a review of existing related plans (see Guiding Frincipleo next page), a Series of analy5i5 maps, and research on <br />potential implementation and funding options. <br />While Some limited citizen involvement is budgeted under this study, additional funding i5 being sought for the <br />expanded outreach that would be neceosary for the community to come to full agreement on the vision. A <br />public forum has been Scheduled for Wedneoday, January 23 from 7:00 to 9:00 f'.M. at EWES. <br />Study Purpose <br />On a regional basio, parks and open Space planning has occurred primarily at a local level without the benefit of <br />a broader regional perspective. There iS currently no single vision for the metropolitan region as a whole. This <br />Study will begin the process of compiling Such a regional vision while identifying both long- and short -term <br />otrategieo for implementation.
