Irrigation Summary
Heading into our first summer, we began prepare the irrigation system for the
season. It was at this point we realized that there were 7 to 10 different types of
irrigation heads. The sales representatives from Rainbird Irrigation came over to
Laurelwood to give us input of what we hoped would be a small punch Iist of repairs.
Instead it was our worst nightmare (see attached pictures). Heads and quick couplers
were blowing up, mainline leaks were the norm. There were only 4 heads out of 475
that were modern enough and up to standard to be put in a city park. The first year
we lost 1 green, 7 tee boxes and half of the fairways and rough at a minimum. At the
end of the summer the greens and tee boxes all had new heads thanks to the
financial commitment of the city and a ton of non - refunded labor by Laurelwood
staff. In the second summer all fairway heads were replaced (see attached pictures).
We believe the irrigation repairs have contributed to more efficient water usage. It
saved millions of gallons in leaks that were common for years! It also allowed us to
produce a better product that contributed to increased use by the golf community.
*removed all old sprinkler heads
from tee boxes, fairways and greens
*City met financial obligations by
paying for them
*Laurelwood staff oversaw entire
project free of labor charge
Proposed improvements
• Add quick couplers to tee boxes & some
fairway locations
• Redesign certain areas for water
conservation & better results
