The parks department had our park scheduled for re- seeding (which is badly needed), but can-
celled those plans in light of the existing problems with the sprinkler system. Another short-
coming of the current system is that it does not extend to a lot annexed to the park by the city at
the east end of the park. (The lot makes the park more accessible for neighbors on Moon
Mountain Drive.) We would like to see this area become more integrated with the older parts
of the park by seeding and extending irrigation to it.
It is the neighborhood's understanding that funds to replace our antiquated sprinklers need to
be released by the City Council, and we understand such action was recently done for Wash -
bum Park at the request of the Fairmount Neighbors.
I am sure that the paeks supzarvisor cc-ld advie you of :he present im'blem,s with the p 0
;4 irri-
gation system. We have also been told that the new control system would work fine with
replacement sprinklers; indeed, without new sprinklers the new controller seems wasted.
Thank you for your consideration of this issue. Unfortunately, there are serious problems with the sprinkler plumbing
Judith Eisen
itself:
Tom Evaniew
Kathy Frazer
Flossie Higgins
• It is more than 25 years old, and despite several repairs it is still deteriorating.
Darnell Mandelbialt
CharloHe Minor
• The coverage of the currently installed spray heads is not adequate. As a result,
Joanna Mitchell
Chico Schwan
much of the park turns brown even with watering.
Lynn Townsend
Kay Westerfield
The neighbors are especially concerned about several tree plantings we have done at Laurel
Hill Park. Because of the state of the sprinklers, we have had to stretch hoses across the street
from our houses, and carry five gallon buckets of water, to adequately irrigate the saplings.
Despite our efforts, some of the trees have died. In the past, the giant redwoods in the park
have also undergone serious stress during very hot weather periods.
The parks department had our park scheduled for re- seeding (which is badly needed), but can-
celled those plans in light of the existing problems with the sprinkler system.
