Motorists driving southbound through the work zone <br />should watch for lane detours, flaggers and construction equipment and workers in the roadway. <br />Eugene Sand & Gravel, working under contract to Commercial Enterprises Inc., which is <br />general contractor to Capstone Collegiate Communities, began excavation for the new crossing today. <br />The crossing on Willamette Street and another on Olive Street at 12 Avenue are part of Capstone’s <br />th <br />overall 13 and Olive apartment complex. <br />th <br />Workers from Eugene Sand had only worked for several hours before uncovering what <br />appeared to be trolley tracks on the west side of Willamette Street. They quickly called in City <br />inspectors, who determined that work should stop until the State Historical Preservation Office could <br />be contacted. <br />A similar situation occurred last summer, when construction company workers found trolley <br />tracks and basalt paving stones under Willamette Street in the vicinity of 20 Avenue.
